Anyone who has a cat that sheds knows what it’s like. Fur is literally everywhere, covering every inch of clothing you own, every surface your cat sleeps on, pressed against corners your cat rubs against…
Pretty much everywhere.
Azula is no stranger to shedding. As a medium-haired cat with a beautiful coat that’s perfect for rain and snow (she does love playing in the snow), shedding has been a bit of an issue since we moved somewhere much sunnier and warmer.
We’ve always used the brush with Azula, and she loves it as you can see here:

But she’s always just had too much loose fur, and even daily or twice daily brushings haven’t seemed to slow down the accumulation of loose fur.
So, we decided to give the FURminator Undercoat deShedding Tool a try. Here’s what we thought.
Azula Reviews the FURminator Undercoat deShedding Tool
At first, Azula wasn’t sure what to think of the Undercoat deShedding tool. She already has a favorite brush, and she’s a little picky about new tools ever since we switched nail clippers over a year ago.
Once I got started with the FURminator, she was in heaven. Azula did her usual rolling around, craning her neck to make sure that I get the itchy spots behind her ears. The result was the largest amount of loose cat fur I think I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Since that first deshedding, Azula hasn’t liked the FURminator as much. This might partially be our fault since we did get a little excited at how much fur we were removing. However, after about a month of having the deShedder, Azula still enjoys it once a week or so.
She was a little suspicious of it after we let our neighbor borrow it for her cat, but after a long session of sniffing the FURminator, Azula was back to getting her weekly FURmination. It’s not as popular as her favorite brush and sometimes she doesn’t like getting deshedded (it could be the teeth on the tool irritating her skin after too much use), but Azula will still roll around for the FURminator.
Human Review of the FURminator Undercoat deShedding Tool
The Undercoat deShedding tool isn’t exactly cheap, and it might not be worth it for cat owners that just want to remove a little extra fur. Azula is constantly shedding to the point that I’ve been vacuuming the floor nearly daily to clean up little clumps of fur.
For us, the Undercoat deShedding tool was a perfect buy. Less loose hair all over the house has been a blessing. Of course, I should point out that there’s still plenty of loose fur. It never ends with Azula.
We did let a neighbor share it, but I think the smell from our neighbor’s cat threw Azula off for a bit. Once the smell went away, she was back to enjoying the FURminator, albeit not nearly as much as she enjoys her brush.
Azula even looks a little skinnier after a few weeks of using the tool, a testament to just how floofy she was.
So, if your cat sheds constantly and you’re at your wit’ss end, pulling tiny little cat furs out of your mouth multiple times a day, this is a great purchase to make and we, the humans, couldn’t recommend it more.
